In memoriam - Christopher Latham

The late Christopher Latham (Music Staff 1962-1965 and Head of Music 1965-’70) came to Frensham Heights from Bedales School, Hampshire, where amongst other things he taught some amazingly talented clarinet pupils. As it turned out he was ideally suited to continue and enhance the excellent tradition of Music Education at Frensham, being a fine pianist and clarinettist and a competent player of the violin and viola, all skills that he used to enthuse pupils (and staff)! Indeed it was his enthusiasm for his subject that, as with all good teachers, enabled him to reach out and inspire so many members of the Frensham community.

After Christopher left Frensham he went on to head the music staff at Sidcot School, Somerset, where he met and married his wife Jennifer (nee Rowland). The pair emigrated to Australia in 1978 where Christopher headed the music staff at Scotch College in Melbourne and St Hilda’s School in Perth.

Many OF’s will remember Christopher as a firm but kind member of staff in the school and at Hamilton House, and all will have benefited directly or indirectly from his superb organisational skills. His famous, carefully annotated diary being essential to his ordered way of life.

Written by David Tutt, former teacher 1965-1970.
